RESUMO

Hierarchical structure of conjugated polymers is critical to dominating their optoelectronic properties and applications. Compared to nonplanar conformational segments, coplanar conformational segments of conjugated polymers (CPs) demonstrate favorable properties for applications as a semiconductor. Herein, recent developments in the coplanar conformational structure of CPs for optoelectronic devices are summarized. First, this review comprehensively summarizes the unique properties of planar conformational structures. Second, the characteristics of the coplanar conformation in terms of optoelectrical properties and other polymer physics characteristics are emphasized. Five primary characterization methods for investigating the complanate backbone structures are illustrated, providing a systematical toolbox for studying this specific conformation. Third, internal and external conditions for inducing the coplanar conformational structure are presented, offering guidelines for designing this conformation. Fourth, the optoelectronic applications of this segment, such as light-emitting diodes, solar cells, and field-effect transistors, are briefly summarized. Finally, a conclusion and outlook for the coplanar conformational segment regarding molecular design and applications are provided.

RESUMO

Caesarean section (C-section) is a prevalent obstetric surgical procedure, with the choice of analgesic agents playing a pivotal role in postoperative recovery. This systematic meta-analysis aimed to compare the effects of sufentanil (ST) and remifentanil (RT) on postoperative wound healing in caesarean section primiparas undergoing epidural anaesthesia. A comprehensive search was conducted across multiple databases, adhering to PRISMA guidelines, yielding eight randomized controlled trials (RCTs) for inclusion. The primary outcome was wound healing assessment using the REEDA (redness, edema, ecchymosis, discharge, approximation) scale on the third, fifth and tenth postoperative days. The meta-analysis encompassed 691 primiparas. A significant difference in wound healing was observed between ST and RT on the third (I2 = 99%; Random: SMD: 6.75, 95% CIs: 3.11-10.39, p < 0.01) and fifth days (I2 = 99%; Random: SMD: 3.63, 95% CIs: 1.56-5.70, p < 0.01) postcaesarean section. However, no significant difference was noted on the tenth day (I2 = 5%; Random: SMD: 0.00, 95% CIs: -0.45-0.45, p = 0.35). Sufentanil and remifentanil exhibit differential effects on early postoperative wound healing in caesarean section primiparas undergoing epidural anaesthesia. While both opioids are effective analgesics, sufentanil demonstrates a more pronounced impact on wound healing during the immediate postoperative days. Clinicians should consider these findings when selecting an opioid for pain management in this patient population.

RESUMO

Hydrothermal treatment (HTT) (i.e., hydrothermal carbonization, liquefaction, and gasification) is a promising technology for biomass valorization. However, diverse variables, including biomass compositions and hydrothermal processes parameters, have impeded in-depth mechanistic understanding on the reaction and engineering in HTT. Recently, machine learning (ML) has been widely employed to predict and optimize the production of biofuels, chemicals, and materials from HTT by feeding experimental data. This review comprehensively analyzed the application of ML for HTT of biomass and systematically illustrated basic ML procedure and descriptors for inputs and outputs of ML models (e.g., biomass compositions, operation conditions, yield and physicochemical properties of derived products) that could be applied in HTT. Moreover, this review summarized ML-aided HTT prediction of yield, compositions, and physicochemical properties of HTT hydrochar or biochar, bio-oil, syngas, and aqueous phase. Ultimately, future prospects were proposed to enhance predictive performance, mechanistic interpretation, process optimization, data sharing, and model application during ML-aided HTT.

RESUMO

Co-liquefaction was combined with hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) aqueous phase (AP) recirculation to improve the practicality of HTL process. The Chlorella powder (CL), soybean straw (SS), and their mixture (CS) with ratio 1:1 were processed at 300 °C for 20 min, and the AP was recirculated four times. The yield of CS bio-crude was increased (from 24.28% to 31.83%) by co-liquefaction, but remained stable during AP recirculation. By contrast, the yields were increased for CL bio-crude (from 32.40% to 41.19%), SS hydrochar (from 19.55% to 30.88%), and CS hydrochar (from 9.42% to 14.76%) by recirculation. The elemental analysis, chemical composition analysis, functionality analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and verification experiments (HTL with model AP components) show the N-containing compounds (e.g., amines) in AP were converted into amides (acylation) for CL bio-crude, into N-heterocycles (Maillard reactions) for CS hydrochar, and into Mannich bases for SS hydrochar, which contributed to the increased yield and N content (from 7.27% to 8.82% for CL bio-crude). Furthermore, the O content of CS bio-crude was decreased (from 15.31% to 12.52%) by recirculation, resulted from the conversion of N-heterocyclic ketones into pyrazine derivates. The decreased O content and comprehensive combustibility index (from 0.306 to 0.177) of CS bio-crude indicate the great potential of this craft combination.

RESUMO

The treatment of wastewater by microalgae has been studied and proved to be effective through previous studies. Due to the small size of microalgae, how to efficiently harvest microalgae from wastewater is a crucial factor restricting the development of algal technologies. Fungi-assisted microalgae bio-flocculation for microalgae harvesting and wastewater treatment simultaneously, which was overlooked previously, has attracted increasing attention in the recent decade due to its low cost and high efficiency. This review found that fungal hyphae and microalgae can stick together due to electrostatic neutralization, surface protein interaction, and exopolysaccharide adhesion in the co-culture process, realizing co-pelletization of microalgae and fungi, which is conducive to microalgae harvesting. Besides, the combination of fungi and microalgae has a complementary effect on pollutant removal from wastewaters. The co-culture of fungi-microalgae has excellent development prospects with both environmental and economic benefits, and it is expected to be applied on an industrial scale.

RESUMO

Aqueous phase (AP) recirculation is attracting increasing interest in hydrothermal process field as it has the potential to increase the yield of bio-crude and/or hydrochar and decrease the cost of hydrothermal wastewater disposal. This work summarizes the effect of AP recirculation on hydrothermal processing biomass, including the discussions on the mechanisms account for the increased yield and the changing properties of the hydrochar and bio-crude. However, the application of AP recirculation in hydrothermal process is limited by the enrichment of nitrogen in bio-crude and the applicability of only specific biomass type. To alleviate these limitations, the feasibility of combining AP recirculation with other strategies (e.g., co-solvent and co-feed) has been discussed. The possibility of using AP as a resource (e.g., nutrient source, and material mediator) can be increased by AP recirculation due to the accumulation of substances.

RESUMO

Pyrolysis of protein-rich biomass, such as microalgae, macroalgae, sewage sludge, energy crops, and some lignocellulosic biomass, produces bio-oil with high nitrogen (N) content, sometimes as high as 10 wt% or even higher. Major nitrogenous compounds in bio-oil include amines/amides, N-containing heterocycles, and nitriles. Such bio-oil cannot be used as fuel directly since the high N content will induce massive emission of nitrogen oxides during combustion. The present review comprehensively summarized the effects of biomass compositions (i.e., elemental, biochemical, and mineral compositions) and pyrolysis parameters (i.e., temperature, heating rate, atmosphere, bio-oil collection/fractionation methods, and catalysts) on the contents of N and the N-containing chemical components in bio-oil. The migration and transformation mechanisms of N during the pyrolysis of biomass were then discussed in detail. Finally, the research gaps were identified, followed by the proposals for future investigations to achieve the denitrogenation of bio-oil.

RESUMO

Heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs) are harmful by-products naturally formed during the heating process of foodstuffs. The present work reported an analytical method for HAAs analysis for the first time in bakery products by QuEChERS technique combined with ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS). Bakery products were ultrasonically extracted with acetonitrile and sodium hydroxide solution (1 mmol/L). The obtained extracting solution was nearly dried under nitrogen stream and subsequently purified by QuEChERS technique using primary secondary amine (PSA) as adsorbents. Fourteen HAAs were separated on a C18 column with the mobile phase of a mixture of acetonitrile and 1 mmol/L ammonium acetate water solution (containing 0.04% acetic acid), and detected by MS/MS under multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode. The developed method was validated in terms of linearity, matrix effect, accuracy and precision. The method showed a good linearity (R2 > 0.999) for all analytes in their corresponding concentration ranges. The method limit of quantifications (LOQs, S/N = 10) of 14 HAAs were in the range of 0.3-4.5 µg/kg. The average recoveries (n = 6) at 3 spiked levels ranged from 62.8 to 96.8% with relative standard deviations (RSDs) of 1.2-7.6%. The validated method was applied in HAAs analysis in 20 bakery products and 4 kinds of HAAs (harman, norharman, AaC, PhIP) were detected with the concentrations ranging from 0.6 to 35.6 µg/kg.

RESUMO

Hexavalent chromium is mainly determined by traditional spectrophotometry, atomic absorption spectrometry, and ion chromatography methods. In the present work, a reliable ultra high performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry method was firstly developed for the determination of hexavalent chromium in textiles. The sample was extracted by acetic acid/sodium acetate buffer solution and followed by derivatization with ammonium pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate. The resulting derivative product was extracted by ethyl acetate, separated on a C18 column, and detected through electrospray ionization source in the positive mode with multiple reaction monitoring conditions. The derivatization reaction conditions were investigated and optimized. The developed method was validated in terms of the sensitivity, linearity range, matrix effects, recovery, accuracy, intra- and interday precision. Results showed that the calibration curves of pure solvent and matrix were linear over the selected concentration ranges of 0.1-20.0 µg/L. The achieved instrument and method limit of quantification were 0.1 and 40.0 µg/kg, respectively. Recoveries were calculated at three spiked concentrations and the values were between 92.2 and 103% with relative standard deviation values of 2.7-4.9% for intra-day precision and 6.1% for inter-day precision. Successful analysis of hexavalent chromium in practical textiles indicated that there was hexavalent chromium contamination in textiles.

RESUMO

Sanguisorba officinalis (the Chinese name is DiYu, DY) exerts significant anti-proliferative activities against colorectal cancer (CRC) cells. Since most of CRC result from the aberrant activation of the Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway, inhibitors of the Wnt pathway are considered as promising anti-CRC agents. This study aimed to investigate whether DY could be a potential herbal Wnt inhibitor, and the bioactive constituents and underlying molecular mechanisms for DY's inhibiting activities would be studied as well. Accordingly, the inhibitory activities of DY and its main components against the Wnt pathway were assessed using the single-luciferase reporter assay based on HEK293 cells. Additionally, the levels of key Wnt-related genes or proteins were measured to verify the inhibitory effects on the Wnt pathway of CRC cells. Finally, the underlying mechanisms accounting for the efficacy of candidate drugs were explored by the transcriptomic study. Results show that DY and its tannins (RZ), and saponins (ZG) significantly inhibited the Wnt pathway of HEK293 cells activated by wnt3a. However, their respective constituents were not effective as expected. Additionally, DY and RZ prominently down-regulated the levels of ß-catenin and Wnt-targeted genes including Axin2, c-Myc or CyclinD1 of three CRC cells. Transcriptomic profiling study suggests that the down-regulation of the mRNA levels of Wnt-related genes such as LPAR6 may be associated with the inhibitory effects of DY and RZ on the Wnt pathway of HT29 cells. Therefore, our studies first uncovered the blocking activity of DY on the Wnt pathway, providing evidence for the rationale of developing Wnt inhibitors from DY as anti-CRC agents.

RESUMO

Emodin is a major active anthraquinone of various herbal laxatives, which can exert many pharmacological effects. However, chronic use of anthranoid laxatives, even at low dosages, may cause melanosis coli (MC). It has been suggested that the accumulation of anthraquinones is a risk factor in the MC process. To investigate the accumulation of emodin, we conducted a bioconcentration study of emodin in zebrafish eleutheroembryos. Based on the economic cooperation and development (OECD) 305 test, zebrafish eleutheroembryos were exposed to emodin at a constant concentration for 48 h, before the test media were replaced by the blank medium for 24 h of depuration. To eliminate the effect of metabolism of emodin for assessment of the bioconcentration factor (BCF), we also conducted a modified test for which zebrafish eleutheroembryos were exposed to the non-renewed test media, whose emodin concentration decreased with time. At different exposure time points, zebrafish eleutheroembryos and exposure media were sampled for analysis of emodin concentration using HPLC-MS/MS. The results showed rapid accumulation of emodin in zebrafish eleutheroembryos to reach a steady-state concentration within 24 h. Meanwhile, emodin was actively metabolized by zebrafish eleutheroembryos to result in 29.5-40.7% of its elimination. In the groups with high or low concentrations of emodin, the standardized BCF (sBCF) values in the standard test were 24.0 and 20.0, while those in the modified test were 50.4 and 52.0. These results showed that emodin could accumulate in zebrafish eleutheroembryos when used for 48 h and beyond, suggesting that the accumulation of anthraquinones may be a risk factor in the MC process. Accordingly, emodin should be unsuitable for long-term use due to its accumulation.

RESUMO

Sanguisorba officinalis L. radix is a widely used herb called DiYu (DY) in China and has an extensive range of bioactivities, including anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidative activities. However, there is little evidence to support its anti-cancer effects against colorectal cancer (CRC). The first-line chemotherapeutic agent 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) is used to treat CRC, but its efficiency is hampered by acquired drug resistance. This study found that a water extract of DY exerted anti-proliferative effects against two CRC cell lines (HCT-116 and RKO), and it sensitized CRC cells to 5-FU therapy by activating a reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated, mitochondria-caspase-dependent apoptotic pathway. Co-treatment of DY and 5-FU significantly elevated ROS levels, up-regulated Bax/Bcl-2 ratio and triggered mitochondrial dysfunction, followed by a release of cytochrome c and up-regulation of proteins such as cleaved-caspase-9/3 and cleaved-PARP. Additionally, the induction of autophagy may be involved in mediating synergism of DY in HCT-116 cells. Gallic acid (GA), catechinic acid (CA) and ellagic acid (EA) were identified as the potential chief constituents responsible for the synergistic effects of DY. In conclusion, co-treatment of DY, specifically GA, CA and EA, with 5-FU may be a potential alternative therapeutic strategy for CRC by enhancing an intrinsic apoptotic pathway.

RESUMO

An original and sensitive ultraperformance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometric (UPLC-MS/MS) method for the determination of pseudoprotodioscin (PPD) in rat plasma was developed and validated. Digitoxin was applied as an internal standard. Plasma samples were processed by acetonitrile-mediated plasma protein precipitation and chromatographed using a step gradient program on a C18 column (2.1×50mm i.d., 1.7µm). The mobile phase was comprised of acetonitrile and 0.1mmolL(-1) aqueous lithium acetate mixed with 0.03% formic acid at the flow rate of 0.2mLmin(-1). Multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) transitions were performed for detection and lithium adduct ions were employed with a significant improvement of the response of the analytes in electrospray positive ionization mode. The concentration range of calibration curve was linear over the range 2-5000ngmL(-1). The intra- and inter-day precisions were all less than 11.5% and accuracies were within the range of 94.1-103.5%, and the analytes exhibited no severe matrix effect. The validated method was successfully applied in the pharmacokinetics of PPD after intragastric (50mgkg(-1)) and intravenous (4mgkg(-1)) administration in rats. PPD showed rapid excretion and with bioavailability of simply about 5.7% in rats.

RESUMO

A novel, sensitive and rapid ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometric (UPLC-MS/MS) method for simultaneous quantification of four furostanol glycosides in rat plasma was established and validated. Ginsenoside Rb1 was used as an internal standard. Plasma samples were pretreated by liquid-liquid extraction with n-butanol and chromatographed on a C18 column (2.1×50 mm i.d., 2.6 µm) using a gradient elution program consisting of acetonitrile and water (containing 0.03% formic acid and 0.1 mM lithium acetate) at a flow rate of 0.4 mL/min. Lithium adduct ions were employed to enhance the response of the analytes in electrospray positive ionization mode and multiple reaction monitoring transitions were performed for detection. All calibration curves exhibited good linearity (r>0.999) over the range of 10-20,000 ng/mL for protodioscin and 2-4000 ng/mL for protogracillin, pseudoprotodioscin and pseudoprotogracillin. The recoveries of the whole analytes were more than 80.3% and exhibited no severe matrix effect. Meanwhile, the intra- and inter-day precisions were all less than 10.7% and accuracies were within the range of -8.1-12.9%. The four saponins showed rapid excretion and relative high plasma concentrations when the validated method was applied to the PK study of Dioscorea nipponica extracts by intragastric administration at low, medium and high dose to rats. Moreover, the T(1/2) and AUC(0-t) of each compound turned out to behave in a dose-dependent pattern by comparing them at different dose levels.

RESUMO

A simple, sensitive and specific method using ultraperformance liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) was developed to determine sunitinib and N-desethyl sunitinib in mouse plasma and tissues. The analytes were separated by an isocratic mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile and buffer solution (water with 0.1% formic acid and 5 m m ammonium acetate; 40: 60, v/v) running at a flow rate of 0.35 mL/min for 2 min. Quantification was performed using a mass spectrometer by multiple reaction monitoring in positive electrospray ionization mode. The transition was monitored at m/z 399 → 283, m/z 371 → 283 and m/z 327 → 270 for sunitinib, N-desethyl sunitinib and internal standard, respectively. Calibration curves were linear over concentration ranges of 2-500, 0.5-50 and 1-250 ng/mL for plasma, heart and other biosamples. The method was successfully applied to animal experiments. The pharmacokinetic study indicated that sunitinib was eliminated quickly in mice with a half-life of 1.2 h; tissue distribution data showed more sunitinib and its metabolite in liver, spleen and lung, which provided reference for further study.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical characteristics and histopathological morphology features of bone marrow biopsies between refractory cytopenia of children (RCC) and acquired aplastic anemia (AAA) to facilitate the diagnosis, differential diagnosis and treatment of RCC and AAA. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed clinical data and histopathological morphology of bone marrow biopsies in RCC or AAA patients referred to our hospital from January 2011 to December 2012. RESULTS: There were totally 130 patients studied. The final diagnoses of them were RCC in 78 cases (60.0%) and AAA in 52 cases (40.0%). The median WBC count, absolute neutrophil count, blood platelet count, hemoglobin level, and reticulocyte count were all higher in RCC children than AAA (P<0.01). All of RCC patients showed hypocellular biopsy specimens, and 84.6% (66/78) of them had cellularity of bone marrow biopsy specimens ranging from 20% to 60%. Patchy pattern distribution was seen in 98.7% (77/78) of RCC cases, and micromegakaryocyte was found in 61.5% (48/78) of RCC cases. All of AAA patients showed severe hypocellular biopsy specimens, and 88.5% (46/52) of them had cellularity of bone marrow biopsy specimens under 5%. Megakaryocyte was not found in 98.1% (51/52) of AAA cases. The response rates of immunosuppressive therapy using CsA ± rabbit anti- thymocyte globulin ± androgen ± traditional Chinese medicine for patients with RCC and AAA were 59.5% and 26.9% at 3 months (P=0.011), and 75.0% and 38.1% at 6 months, respectively (P=0.007). CONCLUSION: RCC patients showed milder cytopenia and bone marrow hyperplasia than AAA. Patchy distribution of hematopoietic cells, erythroid islands with a marked left shift and micromegakaryocytes were decisive histomorphological patterns used to separate RCC from SAA. Immunosuppressive therapy using CsA ± rabbit anti- thymocyte globulin ± androgen ± traditional chinese medicine was an effective therapy in patients with RCC and AAA, and the outcome of immunosuppressive therapy for RCC patients was superior to that of AAA patients.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To study the clinicopathologic characteristics of peripheral neuroblastic tumors and to investigate the prognostic significance of International Neuroblastoma Pathology Classification (INPC). METHODS: One hundred and thirty-five cases of peripheral neuroblastic tumors encountered in Shanghai Children's Medical Center were enrolled into the study. All the cases were classified according to INPC and International Neuroblastoma Staging System (INSS). The follow-up data were analyzed. RESULTS: The consensus diagnoses of the 135 cases were as follows: 80 cases (59.2%) of neuroblastoma, 24 cases (17.8%) of ganglioneuroblastoma, intermixed, 17 cases (12.6%) of ganglioneuroma and 14 cases (10.4%) of ganglioneuroblastoma, nodular. The cases were subdivided into 2 subgroups: favorable histology (number = 90, 66.7%) and unfavorable histology (number = 45, 33.3%). According to INSS, the number of cases in stages I, II, III and IV was 22 (16.3%), 24 (17.8%), 34 (25.2%) and 55 (40.7%), respectively. The survival of peripheral neuroblastic tumors correlated with histologic diagnosis, INPC and INSS (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Diagnostic categorization of peripheral neuroblastic tumors according to INPC is of prognostic value.
